"The Queen of Snakes" is a historical drama about the rise of Queen Catherine de' Medici. Catherine arrived in France as a 14-year-old teenager to marry Prince Henry of Valois, the future King Henry II. However, her hopes for a happy marriage were shattered soon after her arrival. Her newlywed husband was in love with a woman older than himself, the beautiful Diane de Poitiers, and did not notice his lawful wife. Life at the French court was far from rosy: the upper class treated her coldly, calling her names behind her back such as "Italian" and "merchant's daughter". The girl was expected to bring a substantial dowry to her new family and bear heirs. However, after the death of her uncle, Pope Clement VII, she was left without a dowry, and soon rumors spread about her infertility. Catherine learns to survive through cunning and cruelty, gradually transforming into a true monster. The basis for this new historical drama is the book "Catherine de' Medici: Italian She-Wolf on the French Throne" by writer Leonie Frieda. Catherine's fate truly deserves to be portrayed on the screen. She managed to triumph in a years-long struggle against her husband's favorite mistress and saw three of her sons become kings (Francis II, Charles IX, and Henry III). Throughout their reigns, she maintained her influence and played a significant role in politics. Catherine was the most powerful woman in 16th-century Europe, skillfully mastering the art of behind-the-scenes power struggles.
