A typical American living room in a house in New England. Its inhabitants change over the course of a century. In the 1950s, a boy named Richard was born here. His childhood and adolescence take place in this room, here he finishes school, and here he brings his bride Margaret. The young family starts having children, and here they experience all the happiest moments of their lives, as well as the sad ones. The children have grandchildren, and Richard and Margaret begin to realize that their time is slipping away.
